Connie Suttle's Blood Series
OMG! For sheer fun and great reads, check out Ms Suttle's seven books in the Blood series. The first one; Blood Wager, starts right off and never lets up on the action, intrigue and mystery. Chock full of werewolves, vampires and a host of other aliens, deities and dark powers, these stories sweep you into a world you could never imagine, but once there, you don't want to leave. The first installments are a bit choppy, the author is learning her craft, but I promise you she quickly gets up to speed, and brings you right along with her. Thank God she is a prolific and fast writer, because you won't want to wait for the next books in line.
On that note, Ms. Suttle has penned a YA series based in the same universe as her Blood series: Bumble (Legend of the Ir'Indicti #1) and she already has book two available on Amazon! I'm going there now to grab it. Ashe, the young hero in this series is the son of a vampire and a shapeshifter, is a phenomenal character. He'll make you wish for a son like him, yet his reactions are totally believable. The story introduces an entire cast of new characters that you'll come to love, and some beloved characters from the Blood series come to visit.
The thing I found most likeable about Ms. Suttle's writing is she manages to clothe her characters in emotions I can sympathize with. Her villains are evil, her heroine tough and tender, her heros, flawed, but that makes them more human...or not, as the case may be. There are times I want to smack the heroine, but Ms. Suttle manages to stop just shy of making her TSTL (too stupid to live). See, Lissa has the power to assert herself, but is so timid in the beginning, that she allows the males around her to dictate every aspect of her life. She's used and abused and the author's power with words is such that you can't help feeling frustrated with Lissa because you want to slap a few men on her behalf. If the character stopped there, I'd have been done with her, but she grows and matures until she finally confronts the males around her, and snatches the reins of her life from their grasps. She comes into her own with a vengeance, and you'll find yourself cheering and fist-pumping right along her.
I find myself thinking about the stories and the characters long after I've put down the books. In fact, I went back recently and read the entire series over again, and enjoyed it better the second time around. This series comes with the Camille Anthony guarantee. If you like my stuff, you'll LOVE hers. Run-don't walk-over to Amazon and get your copies. You will NOT regret it.
